Sharpening My Knife Skills

Everyone who knows me is aware that my love for eating food is proportional to my hatred of cooking. A love-hate relationship, if you will. Maybe that's one of my mom's concerns when I decided to live alone for the first time... in a country with a different language and culture. #日本 ! While I lived on a stipend, graciously provided by the Japanese government (#MEXT ) at that time, I stretch my allowance till the next "payday" by cooking and identifying my "needs" from my "wants". These days we call that #adulting!

Because of the State of Emergency declared in Japan, almost all restaurants are closed to abide by the national and local governments requests. As a result, three meals are all spent at home, including the #snacks we Filipinos love to insert in-between meals. With this #socialdistancing measure, my knives were sharpened again.

Here are some of the dishes (I cooked a storm but there I usually only remembered to take a snap of the dish when we have polished it off) I have prepared while I stayed at home (#WFH #SIP):

Our Friday Night staple - Steak and alcohol!

Since we have been missing spending our usual week-ender with good company, we turned to our local meat shop for beef and to #Yamaya for alcohol needs. Sorry there's no picture of the bottles of wine in respect to the #liquorban in the Philippines during the #ECQ.

Our Go-To-Noodle Meals - thanks heaps Marion Grasby!

During one of my mind-numbing-FB-scrolling nights, I came across Marion's videos. She made it look so easy that I memorized her stir fry sauce and was determined to make variations of her stir fry noodle recipes. To this day, we have one of its variant at least once a week. Allow me to give Marion's Kitchen a loud shout out!

Cheese and more cheese dishes!

I strongly believe that God made cheese on the 8th day. Anything with it is good; give me a grilled cheese sandwich and I'm a happy lady. So, it's not surprising how much pasta, pizza, and other cheese dishes we have consumed over the course of this situation.

Betsubara (#別腹) - There's always room for dessert!

Having a #sweettooth is something very common among Filipinos. One shouldn't be surprised as to how sweet our spaghetti and ketchup are. Since I'm not good at baking, although I've been told several times it's just like doing an experiment, I just stuck with the easy ones to make.

In case you are all wondering, I've returned my bathroom scale in its proper place... it its box. Chin up, guys!
