When Tokyo won the bid to host #Tokyo2020, I was so excited. Just like the majority, I was intrigued and tickled pink when then PM Abe came out as Mario during the Closing Ceremony of #Rio2016. Remember this?

Everyone couldn't stop speculating what Japan would offer knowing its capabilities. That time, I was still living in Saitama city and I couldn't contain my excitement when it was announced that some Basketball games would be held in Saitama Super Arena, literally about 15 minutes from my previous home on foot.
With all these unparalleled expectations, it was no wonder why the tickets sold at record breaking speed! I did try to purchase tickets for the #Tokyo2020OpeningCeremony and other sporting events. However, lady luck didn't grant my wish. I ended up losing 3 hours of my life. Oh well.
Then, the pandemic happened. And for January 2020, everything changed. Attitudes shifted. Priorities overhauled.
Fast forward to today... In less than 2 hours and 30 minutes (it is now 5:35PM GMT local time, July 23, 2021), the Opening Ceremony begins. A lot of people aren't happy with the decision to proceed with holding the Games or not allowing spectators. But despite all these things and the situation surrounding the Games, I am supporting the athletes.
I will watch the Opening Ceremony and some of the Games because of the athletes. They have prepared for these events in such tremendous pressure and obstacle. Let us applaud them.
These Games should show everyone that there's Hope and that Human Excellence will prevail.
Now, let me prepare my wine and food for the ceremony...
